Vestal Special Education

Our Committee on Special Education reviews a student's progress toward annual goals before developing an Individualized Education Program that addresses curriculum participation and other disability-related needs. At Vestal Central School District, we use that planning to arrange consultant teacher services, resource rooms, special classes and related services for eligible students with learning differences.

We aim to provide support in students' home schools in an integrated setting whenever that meets their individual needs. Community placements remain an option for students who need support beyond those settings.

Our district's preschool education committee works with eligible children ages 3 to 5. For school-age learners, we connect academic learning with community, vocational, social and daily living skills in preparation for adulthood.

Families can review Child Find and early intervention information, procedural safeguards, graduation requirements and the IEP process through our department. We also connect families with the Southwest Family and Community Engagement Center for training and educational resources.
