Nassau BOCES Children's Readiness Center (CRC)
Children's Readiness Center (CRC) specializes in serving preschool children who require a highly structured learning environment and present with autism spectrum disorders or pervasive developmental disorder. Instruction focuses on building "school-like" behaviors and independence using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Activities of Daily Living (ADL) instruction, and a total communication approach including PECS.
A multidisciplinary team provides individualized education and related services, with parent training and workshops offered throughout the year. Related services are delivered by a collaborative team including speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, and social work supports. The program also offers adapted physical education and music, with ongoing parent training, workshops, and support groups.
Placement is made through the district's Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) as part of the special education process, not through direct private enrollment. BOCES programs are publicly funded; families are not billed tuition when students are placed through CPSE/CSE.
