Missouri School For the Deaf

The Missouri Legislature established the Missouri School for the Deaf in 1851, and we have taught deaf and hard of hearing students on our Fulton campus ever since. Today the school operates under the State Board of Education on about 87 acres, and there is no cost to families. We are a bilingual school: students get early access to American Sign Language alongside English in reading, writing, auditory training and speech.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade learn in Stark Hall, which also houses our Health Center, while middle and high school students share Wheeler Hall. Older students take vocational training in the Coats Career and Technology Center. Our services include audiology, speech-language therapy, and occupational and physical therapy, delivered under state and federal special education law.

We enroll both day and residential students. Residents live in campus cottages and dormitories, and charter buses take students home most weekends. Evenings bring cooking, robotics, year-round swimming, rock climbing and art. Our Eagles compete in cross country, wrestling and track, and students join Student Council, Junior NAD, National Honor Society and Music in Motion, our ASL performing arts group.
