J-Town Academy is a family-owned Christian child care center on Watterson Trail in Jeffersontown, started to give nearby corporate and community families dependable, high quality care. The center is state licensed, and enrollment begins at 6 weeks and runs through school age. Children move through infant, toddler, Preschool Explorers and preschool rooms for 4 and 5 year olds, and teachers place each child by age and overall development after talking with the family. We believe young children learn through play. Teachers observe and record each child's progress with checklists and rating scales, keep the work in a portfolio that follows the child from room to room, and use it to plan lessons. Our day runs 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and every enrollment is a five-day week. Weekly tuition for 2024 ran from $225 for potty-trained preschoolers to $260 for infants, with one week of tuition-free vacation after six months of enrollment. School-age children can come for before school care, after school care or both, and summer care is arranged for enrolled students. Parents may visit any time we are open, and daily updates come through the Brightwheel app.

Chartered in 1842, the Kentucky School for the Blind was the third state-supported school for the blind in the United States, and we have been on Frankfort Avenue in Louisville since 1855. We serve Kentucky students who are blind or visually impaired through a full-time K-12 program on campus with dormitory living, a Short Course Program that lets students spend up to 12 weeks on campus while staying enrolled in their home district, and outreach to districts statewide. Our classes follow the Kentucky Academic Standards with the Expanded Core Curriculum built into the school day and after-school program. Students learn Braille or use large print and optical aids, and every classroom, lab and dorm has speech-accessible or large-print computers. Our library holds more than 25,000 volumes in Braille, large print, twin-vision and audio. Orientation and mobility, independent living, community-based instruction and the World of Work job placements prepare older students for adult life. Students in grades 7 to 12 compete in goalball, wrestling, swimming, track and field, cheerleading and forensics, and music includes choir and band. Breakfast, lunch and supper are free for every student.

Learning for Life Education is a small private school in Louisville for children ages 3 through third grade, and we are strictly a school, not a daycare. Our founder spent more than 20 years teaching preschool and once trained Kentucky childcare teachers for their state continuing education credits before opening our doors. Our preschool serves ages 3 to 5 in small classes built around hands-on activities and kindergarten readiness, and we follow NAEYC's 10 standards for high-quality preschool programs. Children are assessed three times a year with progress reports, and families join their children on field trips to places like the zoo, an apple orchard, the fire station and a pumpkin patch. For homeschool families, our Learning Pod serves kindergarten through 3rd grade on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Inspired by the Finnish approach, it supplements home learning in reading, math, spelling, science and history with small groups, movement and creative projects. We also run a summer camp for ages 3 to 8 and Kids Club evenings with dinner included for children age 2 through 6th grade.
