East Chicago Urban Enterprise Academy is a tuition-free public charter school at 1402 East Chicago Avenue in East Chicago, at Chicago Avenue and Euclid. It opened in 2005 as a kindergarten through grade 4 school of choice and later added a middle school. The first eighth-grade class graduated two years after the 2007 middle-school expansion. Ball State University renewed the charter for five years during 2020-21. The academy now serves kindergarten through grade 8. Full-day kindergarten is offered. Other named programs include visual arts, foreign language, after-school programs, and Girls on the Run. Students wear uniforms. Character education and individualized learning are part of the stated mission. ECUEA is a general-population public charter, not a private special-needs school.
