About TRICA Preschool of the Arts

Our Preschool of the Arts meets inside a 1907 Romanesque-Baroque stone cathedral in Boise's Hyde Park neighborhood. Founder Jon Swarthout acquired the former Immanuel Methodist Episcopal Church in 2007, once listed among Idaho's ten most endangered historic sites, and turned it into the home of the Treasure Valley Institute for Children's Arts.

The preschool draws on the Fred Rogers, Montessori, Reggio Emilia and Waldorf traditions, and TRICA is an affiliate of the National Dance Institute. Days are filled with song, dance, performance and outdoor time, and math and science are taught through the arts and humanities with a strong focus on kindergarten readiness. Teachers use Conscious Discipline and mindfulness, and children explore uncommon art forms, from a jug band to handmade Guatemalan worry dolls. Walking field trips start right from our door.

Tuition covers all professional arts programming, and financial assistance is available. TRICA also runs after-school programs, summer arts camps for ages 3 to 9 and arts programs in local schools.
