La Mesa Arts Academy

La Mesa, CA Grades 6-8
Performing arts Visual arts Character and leadership

La Mesa Arts Academy is a public arts-focused middle school for grades 6 to 8 in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District. Our students study and perform in visual arts, dance, music and theater through an interdisciplinary, standards-based curriculum, and that foundational arts coursework prepares them for future conservatory studies. A specialist teaches every class, from core academics to electives and physical education, and character and leadership run through all instruction. School performances are ticketed through the La Mesa Arts Foundation, and our library and an active PTSA round out school life. We are the home school for district residents in our attendance area, and we also accept transfer students from greater San Diego County. The district offers a continuum of special education programs through eighth grade, with services provided in the least restrictive environment under an IEP, and families can use the district's ESS before and after school care.

Rolando Elementary School is the neighborhood public school for the Rolando area of La Mesa, serving children from transitional kindergarten through 5th grade as part of La Mesa-Spring Valley Schools. Four-year-olds who turn four by September 1 can start in our free, all-day TK class, followed by full-day kindergarten. Our Roadrunners have a school library and an active PTA, and our classrooms put weight on social-emotional growth, curiosity and problem solving alongside academics. Students who qualify for special education receive an IEP, and the district offers a continuum of services, from support in general classes to more specialized settings, as part of the East County SELPA. For working families, the district's Extended Student Services program runs on our campus with before and after school care from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and coverage on most school breaks. Some students qualify for free care through state ASES and ELOP funding. Breakfast and lunch menus come from district child nutrition, and Rolando is not a uniform school.
