ACCEL provides education and support programs in Arizona for children and adults with developmental disabilities. In our K–12 Education Program, students learn in structured, small-class settings with academic, behavioral, therapeutic, and vocational supports. Instruction is differentiated, connected to Arizona Academic Standards, and aligned with each student’s IEP goals. Classroom teams adapt materials and work systems to fit lessons, and therapeutic strategies are integrated throughout the school day. Our curriculum resources include Corrective Reading and Math, Handwriting Without Tears, Unique Learning Systems, and TouchPoint Math. Students practice daily living and vocational readiness through classroom routines and targeted activities. Employment-readiness instruction includes dog-treat making, horticulture, and creative-design workshops. Students use an on-campus studio apartment and kitchen to practice everyday tasks before progressing toward community job experiences. We partner with businesses in settings such as retailers, libraries, recreation facilities, gyms, and animal-welfare organizations, where students can practice workplace skills. Training can include flexibility, problem-solving, accepting feedback, responsibility, interviews, applications, resumes, and on-the-job performance. Our therapy team provides services listed in each student’s IEP, including physical, speech, occupational, and vision therapy, as well as adapted aquatics. Staff also use augmentative communication, assistive technology, and adaptive seating to support access to learning.
