Maverick Center for Dyslexia

Maverick Academic Prep is a pioneering educational institution located in California's Central Valley, dedicated to serving students aged four and up who face challenges such as dyslexia and other non-traditional learning disabilities, including dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADD, ADHD, ASD, Asperger's, OCD, and ODD. Founded in 2013, Maverick’s core mission is to inspire academic excellence while fostering social responsibility and lifelong friendships among its students. The school uniquely emphasizes skill-based education rather than traditional grade levels, allowing for individualized instruction tailored to each student's abilities. Maverick employs a variety of therapeutic methodologies, including the Barton Reading and Spelling System—an Orton-Gillingham-based curriculum—as well as the English Phonological Awareness System and Handwriting Without Tears. Each student benefits from two one-on-one sessions per week with certified specialists to enhance their language arts skills. In addition to standard classes, students engage in project-based learning and oral presentations to demonstrate mastery of subjects. The curriculum also includes computer application courses that prepare students for effective presentations using tools like Google Applications. With a strong focus on accessibility, Maverick provides resources such as audiobooks to support students' learning needs.
